The Aquaculture Roadshow with the theme “Sustainable Development of Aquaculture In The Context Of Climate Change”, will take place on August 14, 2024, at Silver Sea Room, MYTHO MARINA Restaurant, No.1 Hoang Sa, My Tho City.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Aquaculture – The sustainable pathway for Tien Giang amidst climate change<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

Tien Giang has emerged as a prime destination for aquaculture investors. Boasting a 32-kilometre coastline and nearly 5,000 hectares of dunes and coastal alluvial land, the province maximises its natural advantages<\/strong> to become a leading aquaculture hub in Vietnam.<\/span><\/p>\n

Amidst climate change challenges, Tien Giang has taken the initiative to make aquaculture a central component of its agricultural sector<\/strong>, actively expanding aquaculture models for sustainable economic growth.<\/span><\/p>\n

These relentless efforts have yielded remarkable results. In just the first five months of 2024, aquaculture and fishing output reached nearly 80,000 tons<\/strong>, reaching 25.27% of the annual target<\/strong>. To meet the growing market demand, Tien Giang has set an ambitious goal of producing over 320,000 tons of aquatic products in 2024<\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a strong focus on exports, the province is committed to enhancing the quality of its aquatic products. Tien Giang has made significant strides in achieving international certification for its aquaculture production areas<\/strong>. Specifically, it achieved over 38 hectares of GAP-certified pangasius farms, along with 2,000 hectares of MSC\/ASC-certified clam farms in Tan Thanh.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tien Giang is in turmoil due to droughts and saline intrusion<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

However, the aquaculture industry in Tien Giang and the Mekong Delta is threatened by the growing severity of climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n

Located downstream of the Mekong River<\/strong>, the Mekong Delta has experienced a significant decline in water supply due to the construction of hydropower dams upstream<\/strong>. Moreover, the shortage of water supply is worsening due to the reduced frequency of large floods<\/strong> caused by climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n

Rising sea levels, land subsidence, reduced water supply, and drought<\/strong> have fastened and worsened the saltwater intrusion in the region. The Mekong Delta has received a ‘heavy blow’, resulting in the loss of over 8,715 hectares of freshwater and saltwater aquaculture.<\/span><\/p>\n

To support aquaculture farmers and businesses in Tien Giang in adapting to the current climate change situation, Aquaculture Vietnam<\/strong> <\/span>organises the Aquaculture Roadshow in Tien Giang. The goal is to help the province capitalise on its natural resources for sustainable aquaculture development.<\/span><\/p>\n

The way out for Tien Giang in the era of climate change<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n

With the support of the <\/span>Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS) <\/b>and the <\/span>International Collaborating Centre for Aquaculture and Fisheries Sustainability (ICAFIS)<\/b>, the Aquaculture Roadshow will be held on August 14, 2024, at MYTHO MARINA Restaurant – My Tho Cruise Port, My Tho City, Tien Giang Province.<\/span><\/p>\n

With the theme <\/span>‘Sustainable Development of Aquaculture In The Context Of Climate Change’<\/b>, this aquaculture roadshow brings together leading experts to share comprehensive solutions, addressing the challenges posed by unpredictable climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Pham Thanh Liem from Can Tho University <\/b>will kick off the roadshow with a valuable presentation on the topic \u201cDiversify aquaculture species (fish species, seaweed group, mollusk group…) to reduce the impact on the environment and minimise greenhouse gas emissions\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

Continuing the seminar, <\/span>Dr. Nguyen Nhut from the Research Institute for Aquaculture No.2<\/b> will present on “Integrated aquaculture technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (using renewable energy, aquaponic system\/ multiple species in the RAS, green technology, circular economy, nano technology…)”.<\/span><\/p>\n

After that, <\/span>Dr. Phan Thanh Loc from Vietnam Food Company<\/b> will provide practical solutions with a presentation on “Increase the value of aquaculture products by applying none-waste technology chain in using by-products as input for new products (technology to produce bioactive compositions, enzyme\/enzyme technology to create new products, etc. ..) create a circular economy”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Following this, <\/span>Dr. Le Thanh Luu, Director of ICAFIS<\/b>, will deliver a speech on “How to change the perception of partners in the chain (commodity producers, processors, and markets, banks for proper financial management, consulting centers…) to improve efficiency, price stability, and harmonious benefit sharing among partners”.<\/span><\/p>\n

The seminar will conclude with closing remarks by <\/span>Dr. Nguyen Viet Thang, President of the Vietnam Fisheries Society (VINAFIS)<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

EVERSHINING INGREDIENT CO., LTD., a leading producer of fermented soybean meal, will introduce its high-quality fermented soybean products at the seminar. These products are specifically produced for use in aquaculture feed, such as for fish and shrimp.<\/span><\/p>\n

PEPTOBIOTICS is Singaporean biotechnology company that produces disease-prevention Recombinant Antimicrobial Peptides (RAMPs) for the aquaculture industry. At the seminar, the company will introduce their Protectide – Recombinant Antimicrobial Peptide (RAMP); biotechnology product, which helps shrimp to prevent vibrio infections.<\/p>\n
