VIETNAM’S FISHERIES EXPORT MARKET – FIRST 10 MONTHS OF 2025

  27/11/2025

Aquaculture products remain one of Vietnam’s flagship export categories, accounting for a significant share of total export turnover and reinforcing the country’s position on the global aquaculture trade map. In the first 10 months of 2025, Vietnam’s aquaculture sector has maintained a stable and increasingly sustainable growth trajectory. Alongside the gradual diversification of export markets and product portfolios, the industry is shifting from a volume-driven model towards strengthening long-term competitiveness across the global value chain.

Overview of Vietnam’s Aquaculture Exports in the First 10 Months of 2025

In 2025, Vietnam’s aquaculture industry continues to affirm its role as a core export pillar. Its products are now present in more than 170 countries and territories worldwide, securing Vietnam’s position among the world’s top three aquaculture exporters. In the first 10 months of 2025, total aquaculture export value reached an estimated USD 9.5 billion, up 16% compared with the same period in 2024. This performance signals a clear recovery after a difficult period and confirms that aquaculture remains a cornerstone sector, generating vital foreign currency for the national economy. By product group, shrimp remains the primary growth engine with export revenue of around USD 3.9 billion, up 22% year-on-year. Pangasius is estimated at nearly USD 1.8 billion, an increase of 9%, while squid and octopus together record growth of about 19%. In contrast, tuna continues to face competitive pressure and tighter technical requirements, resulting in a slight decline of around 4% in export value. (Source: VASEP)

In terms of markets, China & Hong Kong stand out as the strongest growth drivers, with export value in the first 10 months of 2025 reaching approximately USD 2 billion, more than 30% higher than a year earlier and taking the largest share in Vietnam’s aquaculture export structure. Shrimp exports to this market alone surpassed USD 1 billion, up roughly 60%. The EU and key Asian markets such as Japan are also showing a solid rebound, with growth of about 13% (USD 985 million) and 15% (USD 1.4 billion) respectively. In contrast, exports to the United States are showing signs of stagnation: overall value still increased modestly by around 9%, but pangasius shipments to this market fell by about 17% in October 2025.

Overall, Vietnam’s aquaculture industry is intensifying efforts to diversify both its export markets and product mix. This trend is expected to be a crucial advantage, allowing the sector to better manage risk and enhance export value in an increasingly volatile global trade environment.

Ho Chi Minh City – Vietnam’s Economic Hub, Gateway to ASEAN Trade

Against this backdrop of positive growth, Aquaculture Vietnam 2026 and VietShrimp Asia 2026 are expected to serve as strategic bridges linking Vietnam’s aquaculture community with international partners, supporting high-quality business cooperation and advancing the sector’s sustainable development agenda.

Since its inception in 2016, VietShrimp – Vietshrimp Aquaculture International Fair has evolved into a dynamic platform for connection, innovation and progress in the country’s shrimp sector. Starting in Bac Lieu, Vietnam’s “shrimp capital”, and later expanding to Can Tho, the aquaculture centre of the Mekong Delta, VietShrimp has continuously scaled up in both size and content quality. Building on this success, the 2026 edition will, for the first time, be co-located with Aquaculture Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh City, marking a significant step in expanding the event’s scale and international reach.

Taking place in Vietnam’s most dynamic economic centre, with modern infrastructure and strong regional and global connectivity, the co-located events will offer a distinctive combination of local strengths and global perspective. Ho Chi Minh City boasts a highly integrated infrastructure system, including international deep-sea ports, an extensive logistics network and Tan Son Nhat International Airport, which connects directly with major economic hubs worldwide.

Staging the exhibitions in Ho Chi Minh City gives businesses access to a broader and more vibrant business environment, where industry leaders, policy-makers, researchers and enterprises from Vietnam and abroad can meet and work within a single, well-connected location. It also helps optimise time and travel costs compared with more remote venues.

For an industry increasingly focused on exports, this setting creates favourable conditions not only for product and technology showcases, but also for trade promotion, network expansion and the capture of new opportunities along the global aquaculture value chain.

SECC – Global-standard venue, Opening doors to integration

As the first exhibition centre in Vietnam built to full international standards and one of the country’s most modern venues, the Saigon Exhibition & Convention Center (SECC) offers comprehensive, purpose-designed facilities. The venue features spacious halls with high ceilings, high floor loading capacities and dedicated loading and storage areas tailored for machinery, equipment and large-scale exhibits. Power, water, technical and safety systems are integrated in a coherent way, enabling the installation of aquaculture systems, processing lines, water-treatment technology and other advanced solutions in a visually impactful and operationally safe manner, in line with the requirements of leading specialised trade shows in ASEAN.

Aquaculture Vietnam 2026 & VietShrimp Asia 2026, held at SECC, will provide an optimal exhibition environment where companies can effectively present their products, technologies and integrated solutions to targeted professional visitors. The modern infrastructure supports efficient partner meetings, technical exchanges, live demonstrations and contract signings, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of trade promotion and elevating the overall standing of the events within the regional aquaculture exhibition landscape.

As Vietnam’s aquaculture industry accelerates its export-oriented growth and integrates more deeply into global value chains, Aquaculture Vietnam 2026 & VietShrimp Asia 2026 at SECC, Ho Chi Minh City are positioned as strategic platforms. They will enable businesses to engage directly with high-quality trade visitors and international partners, expand networks, unlock new cooperation opportunities and drive sustainable growth in the next development phase.
