Vietnam Targets Sustainable Aquaculture

  14/12/2022

According to the report of the Directorate of Fisheries (MARD), the total aquaculture and fishery production reached 4,007 million tons in July, which is an increase of 4.4% compared to last year. In which, aquaculture output was 2,057 million tons, an increase of 4.1%.

» Pangasius fish: 632,431 tons (an of increase 5%).

» Brackish water shrimp: 250,027 tons (an increase of 3.8%).

In general, the aquaculture production yields tend to increase while the farming area remains the same (shrimp) or even decreases (fish).

In order to maintain the growth rates, it is necessary to have appropriate government policies to support small scale famers and businesses in the farming processes. Meanwhile, the locals should focus on improving the quality of seeds, reorganizing the production chain and locating the material zones close to the processing plants to provide raw materials sufficient for export activities. In addition, domestic enterprises should be proactive in investment and foster the application of aquaculture science using technology for sustainable development.
