VIETNAM’S SEAFOOD INDUSTRY IN THE FIRST EIGHT MONTHS OF 2026: AQUACULTURE AND EXPORTS CONTINUE TO GROW
Vietnam’s aquaculture industry continued its growth momentum in the first eight months of 2026, with aquaculture production reaching 4.25 million tonnes and aquaculture exports totaling USD 7.94 billion.
Aquaculture activities continue to drive growth in Vietnam’s fisheries sector.
With diverse aquaculture potential and favorable natural conditions, Vietnam is increasingly leveraging aquaculture to expand production and strengthen its seafood supply capacity. In the first eight months of 2026, total seafood production was estimated at 6.95 million tonnes, up 3.8% year on year. Of this, aquaculture production reached 4.25 million tonnes, up 6.0%, significantly outpacing the 0.7% growth recorded in capture fisheries. Notably, shrimp production reached 1.10 million tonnes, up 7.9%, maintaining a strong growth rate within Vietnam’s seafood production structure. This growth was supported by intensified farming practices, greater adoption of technology, and stable market demand. (Source: NSO)

Exports maintain strong momentum, while growth varies across major markets
Alongside continued growth in domestic production, Vietnam’s seafood exports maintained positive momentum in the first eight months of 2026. Export value reached approximately USD 8.00 billion, up 11.8% year on year, highlighting continued international demand as an important driver for the industry. Growth is increasingly shifting toward Asian markets, led by China–Hong Kong and ASEAN, while the US and EU markets have shown signs of slowing. (Source: VASEP)
